The Costa Blanca is shedding the last of the autumn foliage and launching into the holiday season as November goes on and the aroma of turron (nougat) fills the air. This weekend is a great way to transition from the joyous anticipation of Christmas to the traditional local fiestas of November.
The spirit of celebration is already beginning to take hold, especially with the beginning of the region’s beloved Christmas markets and fairs, even though the large light-up ceremonies are still a ways off.

Get a Head Start on the Holiday Shopping
Numerous towns are holding early Christmas fairs and markets this weekend, which are ideal for discovering one-of-a-kind artisanal gifts and taking in the joyous atmosphere.
The largest event on the Costa Blanca is Benidorm’s Grand Fiesta Weekend, a huge, boisterous, and colourful celebration that fills the entire town. The principal days of Benidorm’s yearly celebration of San Jaime Apostol and Virgen del Sufragio. Anticipate religious processions, loud firecrackers, parades, live music, and a festive atmosphere. From November 7th until November 9th.

Regional & Cultural Events
This weekend also features important trade and cultural fairs just a short drive from the coast:
Towns from all over Spain, including Petrer, advertise their well-known celebrations at the National Fair of Popular Fiestas (like the Moors and Christians). It’s a lively, colourful, and fascinating look at Spanish fiesta culture, featuring traditional costumes, music, and displays.
Mediaeval Festival d’Elx: If you are further south, the beautiful city of Elche is hosting the final weekend of its Mediaeval Festival, offering a step back in time with markets, street performers, and mediaeval-themed activities. Running until Sunday, November 9th.

Music, Theatre, and Tours
Check local venues for scheduled performances and recurring weekend activities:
Alicante City Tours: This weekend, guided tours such as the “Secret Flavours Food Tour” will be offered, providing an excellent opportunity to discover the Old Town’s history and the local cuisine.
Live Music: Look for weekend concerts and theatrical productions, which get more intense as the weather cools, at places like Benidorm Palace, the Teatro Principal in Alicante, and neighbourhood cultural centres.
The quieter, more traditional inland areas are already anticipating their mediaeval and Christmas fairs, while the Benidorm fiesta, with its spectacular noise and energy, dominates the Costa Blanca this weekend.
