Orihuela: The Great Medieval Market
If you only do one thing this weekend, visit Orihuela City. The 26th Mediaeval Market has officially opened, and it is massive. We are talking about five kilometres of stalls, knights, and falconry.
- More than 300 artisan stalls selling everything from hand-stitched leather to local honey and spices.
- Don’t miss the knight tournaments at the Explanada de Santo Domingo and the Giant Thamur’s Lair in Plaza Ramon (ideal for children).
- Authentic, bustling, and Game of Thrones-like!
- Stalls are generally open from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekends.

Torrevieja: Carnival Season Begins!
While the main parades are still a few weeks away, the Torrevieja Carnival 2026 officially kicks off this Friday.
- Saturday, January 31st: The glitter goes up a notch with the Coronation of the Carnival Kings at the Municipal Theatre; performances at 18:00 and 21:00.
- If you want to laugh, ilustres ignorantes will perform at the International Auditorium on Saturday night.

Beyond the Vega Baja: Costa Blanca Highlights
- Alicante City: For the tech-savvy, the gamejam Alicante 2026 begins on Friday, and on Sunday evening, bubbles Beer Club hosts a stand-up comedy show in English or Spanish.
- If you’re going to the Orihuela Mediaeval Market, park near the train station or on the outskirts and walk inside. The city centre becomes a pedestrian zone, and traffic can be a nightmare!
Whether you’re looking for treasures in Orihuela’s mediaeval stalls or cheering on Torrevieja’s funfair royalty, this weekend serves as a perfect reminder of why we chose to live on the Costa Blanca. Our local town halls have a special magic that combines ancient traditions with modern celebrations, and there’s always a seat at the table (or a tapas bar) for everyone.
