In Calpe, Alicante, authorities detained a hacker who was 18 years old. For months, he had been selling the contents of the databases of the main security agencies after obtaining them. Santa Olalla del Cala, in the province of Huelva, is the site of a massive Civil Guard operation.
Launching cyberattacks was mostly driven by the young man’s desire to test himself.
The 18-year-old Spanish hacker’s primary goal in launching cyberattacks was to initiate them “as a personal challenge,” but he also attempted to sell information from public and private databases on the “dark web). In 2024, it all started when a Madrid business group that was involved in the tourism sector filed a complaint after being hacked.
Investigators have characterised the young man, who had vocational training, as a “self-taught geek who acted alone, without being manipulated by anyone.” He attacked under multiple pseudonyms. His January 28 arrest and subsequent release with preventive measures including a revocation of his passport, a requirement to appear in court every fifteen days, and a travel ban have been emphasised by the authorities.
Fifty cryptocurrency accounts have been confiscated by Guardia agents.
According to the inquiry, the suspect paid 479 euros to gain access to company credentials through a Telegram bot. The investigators stated that once within the system, he had a remarkable ability to navigate it.
The Civil Guard’s searches have led to the confiscation of numerous pieces of computer hardware and fifty bitcoin accounts with a combined value of two thousand euros. His involvement in the crimes of money laundering, computer damage, unlawful access to computer systems, and leaking of secrets has been disclosed by the Ministry of the Interior.
