‘Analysis of tourist trends’ was finished by the Benidorm City Council. This study will tell them exactly how many people visit the city every day, where they come from, and how they get there, whether it’s the road or Miguel Hernández Alicante-Elche airport.
Together with Aquatec, this project was carried out as part of the Sustainable Tourism Plan for Destination “Benidorm DTI + Seguro.” It cost 14,950 euros to be completed.
Toni Pérez, Mayor of Benidorm, along with José Ramón González de Zárate, Councillor for Water Cycle, and city experts were the first people to know about the study’s preliminary results. Pérez said that this report is an important place to start measuring and analysing how tourist flows have changed over time. This will help the city handle tourism better and more efficiently.
The year 2023 was used as a standard for this study because it was thought to be the year when tourism fully recovered from the pandemic. Telecommunications data were used to look at how people move around in Benidorm, information on arrivals at Alicante-Elche airport, and government data from groups like the National Institute of Statistics (INE), Turespaña, Frontur, Egatur, and Hosbec were used to put it together.
Benidorm’s tourist boom: the facts
The fact that the city gets more than 252,000 visitors a day is one of the most important things that the study says. In August, more than 2.1 million tourists come, which is twice the average number of tourists each year. There were also more than 365,000 people living in and visiting Benidorm on August 12, 2023, making it the busiest day of the year. This is over four times the number that was found in the city.
The study also found out more about the number of people staying in non-regulated housing, tourists staying in second homes, and day-trippers, or people who visit the city but don’t stay the night. These numbers help make better plans for resources and services, making the deal better for each type of tourist.
