According to data from the Ministry of the Interior, the present vehicle fleet in the municipalities of Petrer, Elda, and Monóvar consists of about 45,500 vehicles, 6,000 motorcycles, 5,600 mopeds, 2,500 vans, and 3,600 trucks. This indicates that a steady ITV in the region “is a necessity.”
In order to create a Vehicle Inspection Station (ITV) to serve the area, the Petrer City Council has declared its plan to give up a 4,200 square meter building site near a cement factory in the community between Guirney and San Rafael.
David Morcillo, the Councillor for Urban Planning, emphasised during a press conference that this initiative addresses a long-standing request from the Medio Vinalopó community and business community, who have up until now had to travel to other towns like Villena or Novelda, where a mobile station is installed, in order to comply with the required technical inspection of their vehicles.
“For drivers who must travel in order to fulfil a legal requirement, the absence of a set ITV in our area is a significant inconvenience. In order to make this much desired infrastructure a reality, the City Council has determined that this municipality-owned land, which is utilised for industrial or tertiary uses, is the perfect area to present to the Ministry of Economy,” Morcillo added.
The Generalitat Valenciana, which is in charge of running the ITV in the Valencian Community through the public corporation Sitval, may be able to build the new station if the City Council transfers the land to them. “From the Urban Planning and Economic Development departments we will offer all the necessary facilities to speed up the procedures and turn this proposal into a reality as soon as possible,” said the councillor.
Juan José Hernández, the head of the Círculo de Empresarios del Medio Vinalopó, has strongly praised the City Council’s proposal, emphasising how businesses and carriers are directly impacted by the absence of an ITV in the area. “For years, we have been requesting this service. Because it only permits the inspection of automobiles and motorcycles and excludes industrial vehicles, the itinerant ITV that has been in operation in Elda and Novelda is occasionally insufficient. An important requirement for the inhabitants and business community would be met with a fixed station, according to Hernández.
In order to improve services for residents and cut down on needless travel to other towns, Petrer City Council will start the process with the Ministry of Economy to guarantee that this infrastructure is put into place as soon as feasible.
