Everything points to 2025 being a memorable year for Alicante-Elche Airport as well. The second month of the year once again attained a historic total, with approximately 1.2 million passengers, an all-time record for February, after breaking the million-passenger barrier for the first time in January.
Therefore, compared to the same month in 2024, it represents a 16.4% increase with 1,166,789 passengers. This is an increase of almost 143,000 travellers over January. So far this year, this is the second straight record.
The airport has already handled 2,224,003 passengers at the beginning of 2025, which is a 13.4% increase in just two months when compared to the same time last year. Flights also showed this increase, rising 14.5% to 14,698 moves.
Once more, the global market is the primary driver of all the records. In comparison to the same month in 2024, there were 17.6% more travellers. According to data released on Wednesday by airport operator AENA, it accounts for over 86% of all traffic in February with 999,022 passengers. The number of domestic travellers rose by 9.8% to 166,991 as well.
The UK continues to lead the world in terms of passengers, accounting for over one-third of all foreign visitors (361,086 passengers). With 83,047 and 76,864, respectively, the Netherlands and Poland solidify their positions as the second and third markets. The latter deserves special attention because, for the first time in a month, it has already risen to the third-largest source of passengers at Alicante-Elche Airport. With its exponential growth, this market is expected to become the sixth largest in 2024, with 847,000 travellers.
The final two countries on the list are Belgium (65,227) and Germany (76,269). Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport likewise set a record for flights, operating 7,575 flights, 18.9% more than in February 2024.
Alicante-Elche Airport anticipates a record-breaking peak season. According to AENA, 14.7 million seats are planned for the time frame from the end of March to the end of October.
The UK will once again be the most popular destination, but other countries like Germany, which has 15 routes and 420,000 seats, will also contribute to the Alicante terminal’s record-breaking performance.
