El Campello Local Police arrested three young males accused of stealing two mobile phones and a gold necklace from people swimming at Muchavista Beach on a lovely Sunday morning.
The police operation began just after 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 18th, when officers observed “strange gestures” on the part of the three men. When they realised the authorities were approaching, they threw two items underneath a nearby truck.
One of the officers picked up the items, which included two mobile phones wrapped in aluminium foil. When asked about their origins, they originally claimed they were their own before admitting they had been taken from unsuspecting beachgoers.
Meanwhile, the third stayed leaning against the car, and when the police directed him to stand against the wall, he reached into his pocket and threw something between the vehicle’s wheel and the curb. The “something” turned out to be a gold chain, which he claimed he found on the street.
With the three people detained, the Guardia Civil was summoned, and two units came on the spot and transported them to the barracks.
El Campello Local Police are asking residents, visitors, and beachgoers in general to take extreme precautions with personal goods when on the sand, to avoid leaving them unattended while swimming, and, if possible, to avoid wearing jewellery while at the beach.
