The Finestrat City Council is reorganising traffic to reduce congestion at the Avenida Federico GarcÃa Lorca exit. This is Sector 26, which is located on the eastern side of the boulevard and includes the Business Incubator as well as various retail and leisure facilities. This is one of the commitments Mayor Juanfran Pérez Llorca made in his recent public address. The work will begin next Monday, May 26th.
“Shortly after our last gathering, we continue to keep the promises we made to our residents. In this example, we’ll start work on the commercial boulevard, which has recently gained popularity and is set to expand further with the opening of leisure and cultural centres as well as additional retail spaces. And what will we do there? To increase traffic flow and prevent congestion, we plan to add two exit lanes and extend the interior of the boulevard. Mayor Juanfran Pérez Llorca stated that the goal of this work is to reorganise traffic flow and reduce congestion, particularly at the exit from Avenida Federico GarcÃa Lorca to the major roundabout.
The major activity consists of doubling the exit lane from one to two. The upgrade will happen at the intersection of Avenida Federico GarcÃa Lorca and Avenida Miguel Hernández (now the Peumóvil roundabout). “With all this, most roads will become one-way to ensure greater traffic flow both on and off.”
The project includes the construction of new lane islands as well as the replacement of all horizontal and vertical signage to accommodate one-way traffic. We will also use this project to build speed bumps at several pedestrian crossings.
The Finestrat City Council will fund the €50,000 project, which is expected to take one month to complete. “As with any construction projects, they cause inconvenience when they arrive. We hope they are completed as soon as possible and that the work is finished by summer. However, during this period, we must strictly adhere to the construction guidelines to minimise problems and risks to driving and pedestrian safety.”
