With the coming of summer, the Ministry of Environment, Infrastructure, and Territory reminds everyone that from June 1st to October 15th, burning is not permitted in forested areas or within 500 metres of them. The purpose of this restriction is to prevent fires during the most crucial season of the year, characterised by rising temperatures and dry vegetation.
Call for Civic Responsibility
Rosa MarÃa TourÃs, Director General of Forest Fire Prevention, emphasised the significance of following these procedures during peak outdoor activity. “We’re counting on everyone to work together to prevent fires,” she said, urging everyone to enjoy the outdoors responsibly and with extreme caution.
Regulated exceptions for agricultural burning
The regulations clearly ban the burning of agricultural or forestry wastes, as well as crop margins, on forest property and in surrounding regions. Municipalities with a local burning plan, on the other hand, may approve these practices if they are carried out in low-risk regions, at pre-emergency level 1, and before 11:00 a.m.
Citizens can check whether their municipality has a Local Burning Plan on the Regional Ministry’s official website, where they can also obtain extensive information on the permitted burning circumstances during the summer months.
