The explosion, which occurred at lunchtime today, Thursday June 19th, in a bar in Lo Pagán, San Pedro del Pinatar, has injured 16 persons, two of whom are badly injured and three others in serious condition. Municipal sources reported that several hospitals have received them. The Guardia Civil has taken over the investigation, and Judicial Police officials have arrived on the spot.
The Javi bar was closed to the public at the time, but a weekly street fair was held nearby. The cause of the explosion is yet unknown, however it occurred inside the establishment on Calle Torres Fontes.
Since 12:23 p.m., 1-1-2 has received up to 25 calls alleging an explosion at a bar on Calle Torres Fontes in the same town, as well as reports of major material damage and injuries, some of which are critical.
Local police patrols, members of the City Council’s Emergency and Civil Protection Service, firefighters from the Murcia Region Fire and Rescue Consortium (CEIS), ambulances, and paramedics from the 061 Emergency and Health Management Department all responded to the incident. The Guardia Civil’s Judicial Police, a psychologist, and a social worker were also present.
