A man wanted for the deaths of two senior members of a Scottish organised crime ring in a Spanish bar appeared in court in England today.
Spanish police have accused Michael Riley, 44, of murdering Ross Monaghan, 43, and Eddie Lyons Jnr, 46, inside Monaghans Bar in Fuengirola on May 31.
Mr Riley appeared in Westminster Magistrates’ Court, London, via videolink from HMP Wandsworth.
His complete extradition hearing is likely to take place later this year.
Mr Riley has not been charged and has not yet been given the opportunity to reply to allegations made against him by Spanish National Police.
During the brief hearing, he confirmed his identity and birth date.
Due to technical difficulties, Mr Riley is due to appear in court in person tomorrow, Friday June 20th.
Merseyside Police arrested Mr Riley last Friday on an international arrest warrant obtained by the Spanish authorities.
The gun jammed
Following the shooting, Spanish police reported that the hitman’s gun jammed after killing Lyons Jr. with a single shot outside the pub.
The gunman then pursued Monaghan inside the venue, killing him with two further rounds.
Lyons Jnr. and Monaghan were both members of the Lyons crime syndicate, which was centred in western Scotland.
