A Maritime Rescue vessel rescued a total of 32 migrants, nine of whom were minors, on Sunday morning, June 22nd, while cruising in two boats off the coast of the province of Alicante.
According to the Red Cross, who treated them upon their arrival on land, all except one were men, and thirteen of them required treatment for injuries ranging in severity, primarily burns.
Maritime Rescue has offloaded them in the port of Alicante, where they have received social and medical assistance from the humanitarian organisation.
Sunday’s rescues are not the only flimsy boats saved off the Valencian Community’s southern coast this week; another twenty sub-Saharan migrants were found last Wednesday.
Due to the seriousness of their condition, two patients had to be transported to the hospital by Red Cross and SAMU ambulances.
The survivors said they had been stranded at sea for around 14 days. Five people died during the trek, according to their account.
Two days later, on Friday, seven more Sub-Saharan migrants, all males and two minors, were apprehended near Villajoyosa in relatively excellent condition.
