Yesterday, shortly after midnight, the Guardia Civil detained a 16-year-old youth at his family residence. He had earlier struck another kid in the face with a knife on Torrevieja’s Los Náufragos beach during the San Juan Night celebrations.
The incident occurred at midnight on Los Náufragos beach, according to municipal officials. A fight broke out for unknown reasons, resulting in a knife wound to the young man’s face and the attacker escaping. Medical personnel had to transport the injured man to Torrevieja University Hospital.
Search
The Local Police promptly launched their search. They identified the youth as someone who had previously been involved in a similar incident during the Sevillanas fair in May, based on photographs published on social media by beachgoers. With this information, the Guardia Civil located him at his house and transported him to their offices before handing him up to the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office.
Without any further incidents
Thousands of people enjoyed the beach to welcome summer, thanks to a security operation staffed by over 50 volunteers from Civil Protection, Local Police, and Civil Guard, as well as members of the Citizen Security Unit (USECIC). The most serious occurrence was the attack on Náufragos Beach, with few other incidents reported around the coast. Several incidences of alcohol poisoning were reported on this beach, which is popular with young people.
