A fire on a Ryanair jet at Majorca’s Palma Airport reportedly “injured” eighteen people, prompting terrified passengers to evacuate the aircraft. The fire broke out shortly after midnight this morning. As firefighters and police arrived, some passengers on board exited the jet via one of its wings and jumped to the tarmac.
Regional medical emergency response coordinators reported that 18 individuals, deemed mildly injured locally, require assistance. The fire created moments of high stress as the passengers of the Irish low-cost airline’s Boeing 737 were evacuated via the emergency exits, with some jumping directly from the wings to the ground.
The SAMU061 coordination centre got the signal at 12:36 a.m., and emergency measures were initiated. Two ALS ambulances and two BLS ambulances, as well as firefighters and Guardia Civil officials, were summoned to the incident. The cause of the fire is yet unknown.
They needed to transport six passengers to the hospital. Three patients were transported to ClÃnica Rotger in Palma, while the remaining three were brought to Hospital Quironsalud Palmplanas on the island capital. It was not immediately clear what injuries they had sustained.
It is also unclear whether the Ryanair plane was about to take off or had just landed, as well as where it had come from or would travel.
