Arrested and charged with major disobedience, dangerous driving, assaulting a police officer, and resisting arrest. A man driving a gold Citroën Saxo vehicle, crudely “tuned” as a police patrol car, was caught last Thursday night, July 3rd. The vehicle had a revolving display and the word “Police” painted on it.
It was 11:00 p.m. A patrol car from the El Campello Local Police was monitoring Calle San Bartolomé when they observed the irregularities in the vehicle in front of them. The officers quickly determined that the car lacked compulsory insurance and a vehicle inspection (ITV), therefore they launched an operation to halt it after calling for assistance.
At the Avenida de Alcoy roundabout, another Local Police vehicle approached the suspect and signalled for him to stop. However, the driver of the offending car accelerated, overtook the officer, and launched a lengthy pursuit that concluded with his arrest around 1 a.m.

High-speed chase
The chase continued along Calle San Bartolomé in the direction of Valencia (where the fugitive ran a red light on Carrer la Mar, forcing other vehicles travelling in the opposite direction to move aside to avoid colliding) until the roundabout on Calle Muro, at which point the fugitive reached a speed of 100 kilometres per hour, much faster than the speed limit in the town centre.
The fugitive was travelling at 140 km/h when he entered Germaníes Avenue in the opposite direction.
When the chase reached the Avenida El Vincle roundabout, it continued down the CV-777 towards Busot, a two-way street with no lights. In an attempt to avoid police action, the fugitive turned off his vehicle’s lights, including the turn signal, and entered the opposite lane at high speed to reduce the risk of cornering, resulting in “a very high risk to traffic,” according to the officers involved.
Shortly before reaching the town of Busot, the police accelerated to try to overtake the fleeing vehicle, but the driver veered quickly, sending the patrol car into the shoulder and a section of the dirt road on the left side. The police emphasised that this manoeuvre displayed “total disregard” for the officers’ lives, as the speed at which they were travelling may have resulted in a serious accident.
Dead end road
In this scenario, they arrived in Busot Municipality. The fleeing vehicle ignored stop and yield signs and entered a residential area with villas. The chase proceeded through small streets, occasionally going in the incorrect way.
When the driver reached Calle Limoners de Busot, he encountered a deserted lot with no exit, but instead of giving up, he drove across the field. A Local Police patrol car intercepted him, but he abruptly turned left again, colliding with the police vehicle.
Once neutralised and cornered, the fugitive left the truck and began hitting and shoving the police, who then subdued, handcuffed, and arrested him, despite his aggressive struggle.
