The National Police in Alicante has arrested four males for committing two robberies in the city centre. The unrelated accidents happened within 20 minutes and were only a few metres apart. The swift police response, which was part of Operation Summer’s special deployment, resulted in the prompt arrest of the alleged culprits and the recovery of the stolen property.
Two violent robberies with minimal distinction in time and place
The first instance happened in the late afternoon, when two males unexpectedly approached a pedestrian in downtown Alicante, intending to take a well-known brand watch worth around €18,000. One of the attackers pounced at the victim and began a fight to remove the watch from his wrist. When the victim resisted, a second criminal involved in the heist interfered and used force to complete the crime.
Several patrols from the Provincial Citizen Security Brigade, which had been deployed nearby as part of the summer reinforcements, arrived on the scene right away and managed to calm the situation down. Officers detained the two accused culprits on location.
Recovery of a watch thrown into a glass container
During the Citizen Security Brigade’s inquiry, investigators learnt thlearnt that the inmates had thrown the watch in a glass recycling bin. An active security guard was stationed on the container to prevent its disappearance, and it was eventually found a few hours later. The watch has been returned to the proper owner. Meanwhile, the victim required medical assistance after being injured during the struggle.
The second event was recorded as the first was being intervened in
A second robbery took place about 20 minutes later, a few meters from the first. While polAs police responded to the initial incident, they noticed two males running with a rucksack they had brutally stolen from another resident.
Agents from the Citizen Assistance Group promptly apprehended both criminals as they fled, arresting them instantly. The rucksack was promptly retrieved and eventually returned to its rightful owner. According to the victim, while walking in the vicinity, he was approached by two inmates who ordered, “Give me everything you have,” before attacking him and stealing his backpack. Fortunately, the situation did not result in serious injuries for the sufferer.
Deployment during Operation Summer
The National Police established operational reinforcement as part of Operation Summer, which directly correlates with these findings. Operation Summer which takes place throughout the summer months, consists of a large increase in police presence in particularly busy tourist and commercial districts, with patrols on foot, motorbikes, and automobiles. This saturation of cops on public highways provides for a speedier and more efficient reaction to criminal situations, bolstering public safety and discouraging criminal activity.
The four men arrested for the two incidences recounted are aged 28 to 50. They are likely to appear before Alicante’s Investigative Court soon.
