In June, Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport beat its previous record with 1,921,706 passengers. This result reflects an 8.4% rise over the same month in 2024, confirming a trend of continued growth.
These record figures highlight the importance of expanding airport infrastructure, as advocated by the Generalitat (Catalan Government). Marián Cano, the Regional Minister for Innovation, Industry, Trade, and Tourism, emphasises that expansion is an “immediate priority.”
International travel, which predominates at the airport, is driving development, with 1,689,630 passengers, up 10.2%. In June, the United Kingdom had the most international tourists (656,999).
11,730 flights were operated out of Alicante Airport in June. This marks a 7.1% increase over the same month last year, setting a monthly record in this category.
From January to June 2025, the airport served 9,204,491 passengers, a 10.3% increase. This record figure joins the five monthly statistics reported this year.
In a statement, Minister Cano emphasised that the Alicante-Elche Airport is functioning beyond its technical capacity. As a result, she believes that a new runway is crucial for sustaining tourism and economic growth in the Valencian Community.
Cano also takes data from Valencia Airport from January to June. Thus, the airport received 5,606,043 passengers, an 11.1% increase over the same period in 2024, when it handled 44,779 flights, a 9.3% increase.
These figures highlight the strategic relevance of both facilities for the Valencian Community: “We require a new runway in Alicante-Elche and an enlargement of the terminal in Manises. Only then will we be able to continue serving the millions of tourists we receive each year while also expanding as a tourism and logistics destination.
The province of Alicante has never had such a run of consecutive record-breaking at its airport. Alicante Airport is expected to handle more than 20 million passengers per year for the first time in 2025.
