A 50-year-old male was arrested yesterday, Thursday July 17th, in Jávea (Alicante) after running over a father and his two children, ages two and five, at a pedestrian crossing near Arenal coastline. The children were hurt “with various traumas” and transferred to the hospital, according to Guardia Civil authorities. The injured are of French nationality, according to the same sources. At 3:45 p.m., the armed institute “responded to a traffic accident that occurred on Avenida de la Libertad, where a vehicle ran over an adult and two minors aged 5 and 2.”
According to the City Council, a traffic accident occurred at 3:35 p.m. on Thursday when a car left the road and was hit on Avenida de la Libertad. A car struck two people at another pedestrian crossing minutes earlier.
A SAMU unit and a BLS unit were sent to the location. The Emergency Information and Coordination Centre (CICU) reported that one of the youngsters was transferred to Dénia Hospital for head trauma. A Red Cross ambulance also arrived, transporting the father and the other child to the same hospital.
According to municipal sources, the Accident Investigation Unit of the Jávea Local Police is investigating the occurrence, and the car’s driver “has been arrested as a suspect responsible for the incident.”
