On Saturday, August 2nd, the Benidorm Local Police and the National Police prevented a tragedy by arresting a driver who had caused panic in the city following a spectacular pursuit.
According to the Professional Union of Local Police and Firefighters (Spplb), the British citizen who was arrested was driving a rental car erratically, even driving onto the pavements and dodging the police vehicles that were pursuing him.
The Department of Citizen Security has been requested by the police union to take the necessary measures to “publicly congratulate” all members of the municipal force who participated in the arrest, in recognition of their impeccable performance.
The organisation emphasises the “high level of professionalism” and “swift response” that were exhibited in the execution of their responsibilities. They also request that a proposition be submitted to proceed with the granting of the corresponding distinction or decoration to the units involved, including their colleagues from the National Police.
The Benidorm Local Police and the National Police’s swift action, exemplary coordination, and courage enabled the driver to be arrested and neutralised, according to Francisco A. González, the national vice president of the SPPLB. This action put the physical integrity of the officers and those involved in the incident at risk.
The professional union emphasised that the safety of numerous citizens was protected by the successful implementation of a device that prevented vehicles from entering pedestrian areas in the city centre.
The only injuries reported were personal and a few to the officers involved as a result of the strong joint effort.
