The National Police are looking into the finding of a body in a well in Vélez-Málaga. Officers want to know if it’s the man who has been missing for several days in this town, as well as the cause of death. The Provincial Fire Department was in charge of rescuing the body, which was discovered beside a dog that they also extracted from the well.
On Tuesday, the body will undergo an autopsy. The body was discovered late Monday afternoon, September 1st, after someone alerted authorities. The well where the body was discovered lies in an open field near the Loja road and the Vélez-Málaga station esplanade.
The Scientific Police are also conducting investigations to determine whether the individual is the 52-year-old man who went missing in the town at the end of August and has been sought since.
At that point, 112 contacted 061 health services, the National Police, who were conducting an inquiry, and firefighters, who had removed the body from the well.
The Provincial Council has outlined the work done by firemen to recover the man’s body and dog, which were discovered within an 11-meter-deep well with 3 meters of water. To carry out the rescue, they used a high-rise truck as a crane, allowing two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus to descend and recover the man and the dog he was with; the dog was still alive. The Provincial Council stated that the operation lasted about two hours, “to make the body available to the police and conduct the necessary investigations.”
The investigation is focussing on a local citizen who has been missing for several days. Although this has not been confirmed, everything points to it.
