Orihuela Council and the Alicante Provincial Traffic Department have signed a collaboration agreement to establish a computerised classroom in the municipality for theoretical driving examinations. The Mayor of Orihuela, Pepe Vegara, and the Provincial Head of Traffic in Alicante, Antonio Jesús Fornes Méndez, signed an agreement to bring the service closer to the public and ensure that knowledge tests for obtaining driving licences are carried out under the same conditions as at other General Directorate of Traffic offices.
Until now, driving theory tests in Orihuela were conducted at a private facility within the municipality. With the signature of this agreement, the City Council inaugurates an official classroom at Edificio Loazes 7 (previously the CAM headquarters), which, if inspected and approved by the General Directorate of Traffic technologists, will serve as the new permanent venue for computerised exams.
As stated in the agreement, the Orihuela City Council agrees to provide a suitable area that meets all technical, accessibility, and safety criteria, including computer equipment, internet connectivity, and adapted furniture. The council will fund the costs of adapting, maintaining, and managing the classroom.
The General Directorate of Traffic, for its part, will ensure that at least one theoretical test session is held in Orihuela each month, with the possibility of further extensions dependent on demand. It will also provide technical help and advice to ensure that the tests are conducted properly. The agreement will initially last four years and can be extended for another four, and it involves the formation of a joint monitoring committee to manage implementation and handle any difficulties.
With this effort, Orihuela joins the ranks of municipalities in the province that have a computerised classroom linked to the General Directorate of Traffic, demonstrating the City Council’s dedication to improving services and road safety.
