A 36-year-old British man was arrested at Alicante-Elche Airport as he attempted to return to the UK after reportedly hitting his partner in Villajoyosa, who required hospital treatment.
The incident happened on September 17th. The man was wanted for allegedly beating a woman at a holiday property in the municipality.
According to sources familiar with the case, the man attempted to return to his home country hours after brutally beating the victim, who was brought to Marina Baixa Hospital for treatment.

However, these types of incidents reflect a fact that typifies gender violence in Alicante: it is the only significant area of Spain where more foreign women have been slain by sexist crimes than Spanish women, as have their attackers, according to this publication.
According to the Statistical Portal of the Government Delegation against Gender Violence, there have been 72 victims in Alicante since records began in 2003. Out of these, 41 victims were foreigners (57%), 30 were Spanish (42%), and one incident went unreported.
