Torrevieja City Council has granted the contract to the Local Government Board for the cleaning and maintenance of bathrooms on the municipality’s beaches for a total of €995,269 (VAT included) for a four-year term, not counting a one-year extension.
The contract was given to Eulen Centro Especial De Empleo SA for 248,817 euros per year, after the Local Government Board agreed not to award it to Recreativos Acuáticos Horadada SL on July 18th.
The contract aims to provide a comprehensive service that guarantees the cleaning, maintenance, and repair of the fixed wooden toilets and new self-cleaning toilets installed along the beaches and coastal areas of the municipality (Plaza de Waldo Calero, Plaza Arturo Gómez – Paseo Juan Aparicio -, Paseo de Los Marineros next to the Tintero on Playa del Cura, and Plazas de Perfecta Rodríguez and Encarnación Puchol in La Mata).
Beaches Councillor Antonio Vidal emphasised that this contract improves the existing service by increasing the number of facilities to be maintained and cleaned, as well as the length of service.
They were previously in service during Easter and summer, but under the new contract, they will be available year-round (365 days a year) from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. In addition, the number of restrooms on the beaches has grown from nine to twenty-two across all modules.
The new service comprises masonry, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting, and other corrective maintenance repairs, as well as an on-call service for emergencies and circumstances threatening safety or health.
According to the Beaches Councillor, the new contract aims to transition to a more efficient and centralised management approach, allowing the City Council to respond swiftly and efficiently to any problem.
“We want anyone who visits our beaches to have complete confidence in their experience. This deal responds to the current reality of heavy use of the shoreline and strengthens Torrevieja’s reputation as a top-tier tourist destination,” Antonio Vidal said.
