The Guardia Civil conducted Operation Sisagold in San Javier, which resulted in the identification of six individuals charged with five charges of burglary.
The Guardia Civil has recovered approximately 100 pieces of jewellery worth more than 27,000 euros from numerous gold shops in San Javier and San Pedro del Pinatar, according to Guardia Civil sources in a statement.
The investigation began as part of the Guardia Civil’s attempts to monitor and examine business establishments that buy and sell gold and precious metals.
The Guardia Civil discovered a series of pieces in several of these establishments, located in the municipalities of San Javier and San Pedro del Pinatar, that resembled stolen jewellery.
The jewellery was matched to descriptions and images provided by the owners. In this manner, the Guardia Civil discovered engravings of letters, dates, and other data that were not overlooked.
After they were identified by their legal owners, the Guardia Civil focused their investigation on locating the people who had sold them.
These investigations were successful, with the discovery of four women and two men from San Javier who had previously worked as domestic staff in the victims’ homes or had family ties to them.
One appeared to have stolen the jewellery while working as an operator for an alarm installation firm.
The Guardia Civil learnt that further sales were posted under similar names, raising suspicions that these products were also stolen.
The investigation led to the owners’ homes in San Javier, where some of them had no idea their jewellery had gone missing until the Guardia Civild returned it to them.
So far, Operation Sisagold has resulted in the identification, location, and investigation of six San Javier residents—four women and two men—charged with five counts of burglary, fraud, and embezzlement.
The Guardia Civil found nearly 100 items of jewellery worth over 27,000 euros, which were returned to their rightful owners.
