The National Police recovered more than 11 tonnes of hashish in two operations in Malaga and Algeciras in less than a week, thanks to their collaboration with Moroccan authorities. Ten people have been arrested on accusations of belonging to a criminal organisation and drug trafficking.
The inquiry began in July, with information shared between Spanish and Moroccan officials. They discovered a probable criminal outfit with links to Spain and Morocco that was preparing two cars to deliver hashish to Spain via the ports of Tangier and Algeciras.
The first vehicle, a lorry with a refrigerated trailer, was discovered in Malaga after arriving in Algeciras the day prior. It was accompanied by two shuttle vans as a security precaution after the organisation noticed police presence.
The detectives determined that the trailer’s contents were pallets of melons, with a total of 9,300 kilos of hashish concealed between them. The police successfully intercepted the truck, seized the goods, and arrested six people.
Transfer between Tangier and Algeciras ports
Later, in August, authorities discovered another illegal operation. This time, the suspected organisation was moving furniture in a vehicle. The detectives discovered that the drugs were hidden inside the furniture with the intention of moving them from Tangier’s port to Algeciras. The van, accompanied by one shuttle vehicle, was discovered after disembarking in Algeciras. When it arrived in Malaga, it was intercepted again by the police.
As a result of the second part of the investigation, the police recovered 1,825 kilogrammes of hashish, more than 14,000 euros, and eight mobile phones. Four individuals were arrested.
