In the capital of the Marina Alta district, the Guardia Civil arrested a 21-year-old woman who was said to be carrying almost 18 kilos of this drug.
On September 22nd, the arrest happened as part of operations to suppress smuggling, fraud, and drug trafficking.
During this operation, officials from the Guardia Civil’s Fiscal and Border Section at the Port of Dénia spotted the arrested woman’s car, which she was going to use to get to the islands.
The tourism incident made the team in charge of stopping and keeping track of drug shipments to the peninsula and the islands suspicious. The driver, who was the only person in the car, was found by the police.
During that check, they found that the Spanish girl’s paperwork didn’t match up with the car’s information and that she didn’t have the required insurance.
Because of these strange things, they decided to look more closely. They found a sports bag in the car with 17 vacuum-sealed parcels inside.
After looking at the contents, they figured out that it was hashish and weighed 17.897 kg. So, they quickly arrested the suspect.
According to individuals participating in the inquiry, hashish is not the most common narcotic seized in this type of operation. Cocaine and designer drugs like tusi or MDMA are the most popular narcotics that are brought to the islands. Other varieties of methamphetamine are also common.
The Investigative Court No. 2 of Dénia heard the case of the 21-year-old woman who was arrested for drug trafficking and a crime against public health. The court ordered her to be released on bail, which means she has to show up in court every so often and give over her passport.
The Guardia Civil is still looking into where the drugs came from and where they were going.
