The stabbing of a defendant has forced the Second Section of the Provincial Court to put off the trial on Monday, October 6th, of two men accused of trying to rob a home in Alicante at gunpoint and robbing a couple in San Miguel de Salinas with the intent of stealing their car, which they also did with a gun.
One of the two people accused of the robberies, represented by lawyer Mariana Ivanov, showed up for the hearing. The other suspect’s lawyer, Roberto Sánchez Martínez, told the court that his client couldn’t be there because he had been stabbed, so the Second Section agreed to the suspension.
The accused was committed to the acute care unit of a hospital after getting 10 stab wounds following a disagreement that happened last weekend on a public street in Almoradí, near a restaurant. The Guardia Civil is looking into this stabbing, which at first had nothing to do with the trial. As of yesterday morning, no arrests had been made.
The two defendants are facing a request for 11 years in prison for two counts of robbery (one of which was attempted) and one count of storing flammable and incendiary devices. This is because five Molotov cocktail-type incendiary devices were found in a warehouse in Dolores. The prosecutor is also asking for four years in prison for the Molotov cocktails that were found in a warehouse in Dolores. There are two other defendants in this case.
Attack in Alicante
The indictment from the Prosecutor’s Office says that the first robbery happened on April 25th, 2022, when one of the defendants vaulted over the stone wall that surrounded the villa in Alicante they were going to rob. He opened the door for the other defendant as soon as he got inside. The owner of the residence, who was cleaning the pool, surprised them by pointing what looked like a gun at them.
The man took refuge inside the house and began shouting, informing them that he was going to contact the police. The victim’s brother heard the screams and ran over, but the defendants also aimed their pistols at him before running away.
On June 8th of that year, the defendants are said to have approached a couple in San Miguel de Salinas who were in their car with their little daughter. They pointed a gun at the driver and asked for the keys to the car, but the man said no.
The prosecution says that the defendants stole the attacker’s cell phone, kicked and struck the victims, and tried to get the keys by hitting them with the butt of a revolver. They then tried to open the vehicle, but fled when they discovered it was locked and that the victim’s minor daughter was inside.
On June 15th, 2022, police searched a garage in Dolores where the two defendants and two other men who are also charged in this case were keeping five Molotov cocktail-type incendiary devices and other tools used to commit crimes, like gloves, handcuffs, bulletproof vests, shotguns, licence plates, axes and sledgehammers, among other things.
