Two people have been arrested by the Guardia Civil for allegedly stealing from a jewellery store in the town of Águilas. One of the people who was arrested acted like a client, and the other one broke the display cases with a large hammer, put a lot of jewellery in a cart, and ran away.
The Guardia Civil was called to a jewellery store in the centre of Águilas to report a robbery, which led to Operation Tor 2.
Officers from the Guardia Civil went to the business and talked to the worker. The woman said that a man walked into the business with his face uncovered and wanted to buy jewellery. A little while later, a man with a cap and sunglasses came inside the store with a shopping cart.
This second person used the chance to block the door with a stick, probably to keep it open so he could get away later.
Then he pounded a few of the display cases hard with a large hammer, broke them, took all the jewellery he could get, and ran away.
The claimed customer didn’t seem surprised at all when the staff pressed the alarm button during the heist. He stayed inside the store in a passive and expectant way until he ultimately departed without saying anything.
The Guardia Civil gathered evidence from the crime scene, interviewed witnesses, and looked at footage from the establishment’s security cameras. This indicated that the suspect had fled on a moped after the robbery and that the alleged customer was an accomplice whose presence was meant to distract the employee.
The investigation resulted in the identification, location, and arrest of two males, who are currently under investigation for the burglary crime.
