The Murcian Association of Outdoor Advertising Entrepreneurs (AMEP) has taken down more than 300 old billboards and any ads with sexist content in the city of Murcia. The group says that the program is in response to public demand and “reinforces the sector’s commitment to responsible advertising while reducing visual clutter on avenues and neighbourhoods.” “We are committed not only to advertising, but also to the city and its people. “Murcia needed a public space that was better organised and had messages that reflected its values,” says Víctor Javier Segura, president of AMEP. So, they say that this move helps make the city “cleaner, more orderly, and more equal.”
AMEP says that this measure “has improved accessibility and opened up new opportunities for small businesses,” in addition to getting rid of broken or extra media. In this regard, Segura stressed that “we want outdoor advertising to stay a useful tool, especially for small and medium-sized businesses that find this platform to be an effective and easy way to reach people.”
The group says that AMEP keeps talking to public officials and social stakeholders “to make sure that this kind of advertising is a good choice that helps the economy grow and makes the municipality a better place to live.”
