The National Police have arrested a 26-year-old man in Alicante for robbery with violence and intimidation, fraud, and injuries after he robbed two couples who were walking through the pedestrian accesses to Santa Bárbara Castle in Alicante while waving a gun.
After getting two complaints of similar events happening near the base of Alicante Castle, officials from the Alicante Central District Police Station’s Judicial Police started their investigation.
A couple going along one of the pedestrian access points said they were attacked by a man who pointed a gun at them and yelled at them to give him their luggage.
One of the victims, on the other hand, figured out that the weapon was fake and refused to give it to the attacker. The attacker then became angry and started pounding him on the head with the fake weapon.
Her partner tried to stop the attack when he saw that the weapon was made of plastic and was falling apart from the severe blows he was giving it. The attacker hit her partner as well, and then he collected the stolen goods and ran away.
Both victims needed medical help for their injuries. The male had the most serious injuries, needing six stitches in his head and three in his elbow.
After the crime, the thief used the victims’ bank cards in stores to buy cheap things so that he wouldn’t have to give them their PIN code because the cards didn’t have one.
Second theft
The second incident was similar in nature. The attacker approached two people sitting on a bench on the other side of the same promenade and threatened them with a gun, forcing them to give him their phones and money.
The victims eventually realised that the pistol might not have been real because the attacker pressed the trigger and nothing happened. They tried to hold the man down, but he got away with both of their things again.
Phones that were stolen
After looking over the two complaints, the authorities in charge of the case took additional statements and looked into who the man was who was scaring people on these pedestrian paths.
A few days later, a citizen security patrol in Alicante found a man who looked like the victims and was near a store that sells used products.
The authorities stopped the man and found the two cell phones that had been stolen from the victims of the second theft hidden in his clothes. He was allegedly trying to sell them where he was. He was arrested because he was thought to be the person who committed the crimes that were reported.
After that, the officers in charge of the case searched the apartment where the suspect was staying. They found the victim’s cell phone and ID, as well as a fake gun and clothes that looked like what he was wearing when he robbed people. They also uncovered other things that had been stolen from the victims of the second crime.
After the police looked into the case, they took the accused man to the Alicante duty court.
