Alicante City Council’s contracting committee has announced the six solutions that were chosen for the public tender for the famous kiosk that used to be the Peret kiosk on the Explanada de España. The kiosk will be turned into an ice cream shop and café.
The city government has put off classifying the proposals until it checks the companies’ paperwork to make sure they meet the requirements, which include continuing their previous work and making their own goods.
The city council said in a statement that seven proposals were received, but one was not accepted because it did not match the tender terms. This left six applicants for the contract.
Café Ole & Friends SL made a bid of €1,839,985.14. The temporary joint venture (UTE) formed by Sensai Restauración SL and Mundaka Helados SL made a bid of €3,213,123.30. The UTE Nicolás Romero Vargas made a bid of €2,003,333. Ondiba SL made a bid of €1,293,565. Lunetoile Ocio 9 SL made a bid of €2,720,947.72. Hotel Boutique Isla de Tabarca SL made the highest bid, which was €4,023,523.38. Valour Retail SL was not included in the company.
The tender started in mid-September and offered a seven-year public land concession that could be extended for two three-year periods. The beginning charge was €1,263,828.18, with a two percent rise each year.
Cristina Cutanda, the Councillor for Public Spaces, revealed the kiosk’s tender during the government meeting on September 16th. She said, “Alicante is close to getting back an iconic ice cream parlour in the city, in an iconic space.” “It is a part of our history, both as a group and as individuals,” she stressed.
The councillor further stressed that the process includes a condition that “the concessionaire work with artisanal products, specifically ice cream and slushies, to continue the traditional activity that has been going on there for decades.”
The making of these handmade goods makes up 10% of the measurable criteria, while the other 90% is the fee offered. Now, municipal technicians have to look at these things to sort the bids that were sent in.
Features
The kiosk takes up 39 square metres and has plumbing and sanitary facilities, as well as basic lighting and electricity. It has a metal frame and big windows that are divided by stainless steel poles. Three of its four sides have beige electric awnings.
The business is a cafe and ice cream shop that doesn’t have a kitchen. It has permission to make meals on a grill, toaster, and oven as long as no smoke is released. The person who wins the bid must do all the work and repairs needed to fix up the kiosk and its facilities, both inside and out.
The terrace space outside the land covered by the concession is not included in this contract. It can be used for special purposes with a public land permit, which will be handled through a different administrative process, as long as the rules for outdoor seating in the city are followed. The area set aside for outdoor seating is around 180 square metres, which is the same size as the shaded area of the awning.
