During the day, there are a lot of people about, but at night, it seems really creepy. The body of the former spouse of the Mayor of Almassora was found in a skip on Avenida Pérez Galdós in Castellón, near Ribalta Park and the bullring.
Vicente D. may have died when the equipment of a rubbish truck crushed him after he was placed alive into a dumpster. It seems that he was knocked out during an attack that early theories say was “a settling of scores.”
The victim, who was 43 years old and well-known in Almassora, was the head of Geserinfo, a company that installs and manages point-of-sale (POS) terminals. He and María Tormo, the Mayor of this town and a provincial delegate for the People’s Party (PP), have a five-year-old daughter together.
A person who lives in the area and is close to the scene said that the breakup was caused by his many addictions and rude behaviour.
“He comes from a good family and was a great kid until things went wrong,” he said. He thinks that the same actions may have led to his beating.
The Mayor of Almassora has not spoken anything about the issue yet. “She is highly regarded in the town,” she says, because she is a “much-loved” leader. People of the Popular Party also love her. People in the party think that Tormo is “outgoing, cheerful, well-liked in the town, and has a perfect record.”

People in the region, both residents and business owners, are talking about Vicente’s death.
People on the same street are talking about the dead person, who was wearing pleated trousers, a waistcoat and trainers. This is what a man and a lady who had just walked into a tobacco shop on the same street said about how he looked. “We knew the life he led,” they said.
Ribalta Park, in particular, doesn’t have a good image among Castellón locals at night, when drug dealing is rampant.
Witness “in situ”
On Sunday October 19th at 5:00 a.m., rubbish collectors found Vicente’s dead body when they saw a limb poking out of a container after tossing the body into the rubbish truck.
A person who lived in block number 10 saw what happened on the scene. She generally gets up at 5:00 a.m. and from her window she could see what was going on when the cops got there. She was astonished by “the commotion” at that early hour.
She said that the container where the body was found was immediately across from a tattoo shop. The Forensic Police took samples and pictures there to help them figure out what happened.
She saidr, “I started seeing lights, and I said, ‘How strange, something’s happened.'” He looked out from his fifth-floor flat and saw two fire trucks, at least ten police cars from the National and Local Police, a SAMU ambulance and ‘a crossed car’.
“I thought it was an accident.” But then I watched the firefighters take a body out of the rubbish truck. “Bring the stretcher and a blanket,” they yelled, she remembers, still stunned.
The body became stuck in the baling machine when it fell out of the truck that was carrying the trash, but it was too late. A paramedic from the Emergency Medical Assistance Service (SAMU) said the man was dead.
The firefighters then brought the body to the front of her door. The neighbour could see what was going on from her house as the forensic police and coroner looked at the body.
She says, “The mortuary van got there around 7:30.” The judge on duty ordered that the body be sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine (IML) in Castellón.
The National Police started the inquiry and talked to various people who were in the vicinity at the time. The investigation is still open to find out what happened, but it will depend on the results of the forensic report.
Police are also looking for clues about what happened by looking at surveillance cameras in the area. They have been able to get back up to three recordings so far. These recordings could help find the assailant or attackers.
