A 49-year-old man was arrested for “taking the law into his own hands” and beating up another man in an Alicante square when he found out the marijuana he had just bought was of poor quality and refused to give him his money back.
According to people who know about the event, it happened in the early hours of Sunday morning, October 26th, around 1:15 a.m., on a plaza quite close to the Doctor Balmis General Hospital in the city. The Spanish citizen who is said to have bought the item is being charged with the crime of arbitrary exercise of one’s right by the use of violence, which is the same as “taking the law into one’s own hands.”
At the same time, the “dealer,” a 53-year-old Peruvian who was in Spain illegally and had no criminal record, and a 51-year-old woman who was with him and carrying drugs—a Spaniard born in Cuba—were also arrested for drug trafficking.
A National Police patrol was driving through the square in the Garbinet neighbourhood early in the morning when they noticed one person kicking another in the face. The person hurt his mouth, but he didn’t want to go to the doctor.
People who saw it happen
The authorities split the two people up, and the person who was accused of being a drug dealer said that they were hitting him to steal from him. However, witnesses said that the attacker and the victim had agreed to buy 50 grammes of marijuana for 50 euros.
The customer, who was with two pals who were meant to be using the drugs, thought the green bag with a hole in it and the amount of drugs was “poor quality” and gave it back to the woman.
The drug dealer, on the other hand, wouldn’t give back the money, which led to a brawl. At first, the woman ran away, but the police later found her. A search found the ripped green bag that witnesses said had the marijuana in it.
A bag with two small bags of marijuana ready to be sold was spotted on the branch of one of the trees in the square.
The suspected vendor didn’t have a criminal record, but the woman did have 14 previous arrests. The buyer and attacker, on the other hand, had 30 police records. All three have already appeared before the court on duty, according to these same sources.
In Alicante, the National Police have detained three young men between the ages of 18 and 20 and a 17-year-old boy for allegedly being involved in the attack on an 18-year-old male near a nightclub in Albufereta. The young man has been in the hospital since October 5th. He and his pals offered to help a girl who was crying in the street and was attacked.
He was in the ICU of the General Hospital for six days after passing out on the floor and getting serious head injuries, including a broken skull. Two of this young man’s buddies were also hit, but they were hurt less badly.
Sources close to the case say that the police inquiry showed that the girl was crying and went outside after arguing with her boyfriend, who was in a VIP room at the nightclub celebrating a birthday party and complained that she wasn’t with him.
The UDEV Study
Last week, the young man’s family said on social media that he was assaulted by about twenty individuals. The Violent Crime Unit (UDEV) of the Alicante Provincial Judicial Brigade has now solved the attack, which seemed very hard to do. People close to the case say that the primary suspects in the attack on the 18-year-old have been caught and will go to the Alicante duty court and the Prosecutor’s Office on Thursday for the 17-year-old’s case.
The event took place in the early morning hours of October 5th, close to the Supercor supermarket and the Magma nightclub in Alicante. The victim and some pals were on their way home from the party when they saw a female sitting on the street nearby, crying.
The young men stopped to see what was wrong with the female, and after asking her, her partner showed up. He told them to leave her alone and yelled at them for talking to her.
At that point, a fight broke out, and more of the girl’s boyfriend’s pals joined in. One of them hit a buddy of the young man hard in the face, which sent him to the hospital. He then called the police. But a few moments later, one of the attackers punched the 18-year-old in the face five times and another pushed him, making him fall to the ground.
When the 18-year-old hit the ground, he smacked his head hard and passed out. The attackers knew that someone had phoned the National Police, so they ran away when patrol cars showed up. At first, they were able to get away without being caught.
When the police got there, they found the 18-year-old man with injuries to his mouth. He had woken up, but he was still shaken up by the attack. The medical team that came to the site helped the wounded and took him to Alicante General Hospital.
The young man was taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) when he got to the hospital because his head injuries were so bad. He was moved from the ICU to the ward after six days. He is still in the hospital, waiting to see how his head injuries heal.
After the attack, officers from the Violent Crime unit started talking to witnesses and collected information about the people who might have done it.
Witnesses from both groups of young men gave information that made it possible to figure out that there were two more victims who were hit in the fight, in addition to the 18-year-old male who ended up in the ICU. Sources close to the case say that it was impossible to tell for sure if the victim was already unconscious from the punches when he went to the ground or if he lost consciousness because he hit the ground after being pushed.
The family and acquaintances of the young guy said that between fifteen and twenty people attacked him, but the National Police investigation has shown that four young men between the ages of 17 and 20 were the attackers. They were detained in recent days after being found. The kid went to the Alicante Provincial Police Station on Wednesday. After more inquiry, the UDEV (Defence Unit for the Defence of the Delinquency) told the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office.
