The unknown drone that forced the Alicante-Elche airport to close for two hours on Monday night, October 27th, for security reasons has not flown again, at least not near the airport. The National Police searched the Torrellano region and the Elche Industrial Park on Monday and again early Tuesday, but they didn’t find any signs of the drone. The owner of the drone left before being caught and identified, therefore they will have to pay a large fine.
A new alert went off early yesterday morning, but it turned out to be a false alarm that didn’t impair the airport’s operations. A dozen flights with more than a thousand passengers had already been diverted there hours earlier.
Yesterday afternoon, experts from the Police Air Unit (UAP) of Alicante came back to the area to do another check. They still didn’t find any drones, which are not allowed to fly near airports because they could crash into planes.Yesterday afternoon, experts from the Police Air Unit (UAP) of Alicante came back to the area to do another check. Police are looking into the idea that one or two drones set off the alarms at the airport just before 9 p.m. on Monday. But it might have only been one drone that was seen in Torrellano and then went to the Business Park, where the other sighting happened.
The UAP police used two devices to carry out the raid. One was called Aeroscope, which helps them find drones and the pilot’s location. The other was called Sendes, which is an anti-drone device that turns on an inhibitor that stops the drone and makes it go back to the base where it started its flight or stay still until it runs out of battery or lands.
