Selective waste collection improves in Pilar de la Horadada with the implementation of a system that involves the total renewal of the fleet of blue (paper and cardboard) and yellow (plastics and packaging) containers and the incorporation of a new large side-loading truck that will allow for increased collection frequency for these containers.
STV Gestión, the company that has the contract to provide this service for the Pilar de la Horadada City Council, will add more containers and change the way they are collected. Instead of being loaded from the top, they will now be loaded from the side with a truck that can hold 26 cubic meters, which is three times more than the current truck.
The blue and yellow recycling bins are already being replaced, and the job will be done by the middle of November. The work will be done in stages, commencing in the coastline area and then moving on to the Pinar de Campoverde, Lo Romero, and La Cañada districts. After that, it will move on to the outer residential neighbourhoods and eventually to the town centre of Pilar de la Horadada.
STV Gestión says that one of the benefits for the public is that noise levels, traffic problems, and other problems that could happen are kept to a minimum because the new truck is faster, more agile, and easier to drive on city streets. It also uses less energy, which is better for the environment.
Pedro Miguel Moya, the Councillor for the Environment, said that these changes “improve the service and allow the residents of Pilar de la Horadada to recycle more and better.” This means that trash is thrown away properly, which means “contributing to caring for our surroundings and the environment.”
He also believes that “increasing the recycling figures in Pilar de la Horadada” is possible. He thanks the locals who recycle for their devotion and urges others who don’t recycle yet to do so, “because we all win, and, above all, the environment wins.”
The Pilar City Council pays 5,283,059.86 euros a year for the service that cleans the streets and picks up trash in the city.
