The Local Governing Board of the Torrevieja City Council have approved the writing of the proposal to build a heated swimming pool in the Sports City. It will be built behind the “Tavi y Carmona” Sports Palace and across from the Cecilio Gallego Pavilion.
Francisco Miguel Juárez Pozuelo won the project for 59,154.48 euros (including VAT). In his offer, he promised the following:
Preliminary draft.
Extension of the warranty period beyond the minimum of 18 months.
Increase in the technical assistance period of the service to 18 months.
This contract will last for six months. The service guarantee period will be one year from the moment the full project is approved, plus 18 months for any upgrades made.
A 25-meter-long by 12.50-meter-wide heated swimming pool
Diana Box Alonso, the Councillor for Sports, has said that the second heated swimming pool would feature a basin that is 25 meters long and 12.50 meters wide. It may be used for warming up and for water activities. It will be built in the Sports Complex, in the space behind the current Olympic-size swimming pool and parking lot.
The structure that will have the heated swimming pool will have a total floor space of almost 1,600 m2. It will also have a reception area, stands, changing facilities for ladies, men and mixed groups, and a basement.
Improving the environment of the sports complex
The exterior space will be reorganised to include additional green areas and gardens. The goal is to make it fit in perfectly with the existing spaces and utilities. This action not only improves the complex work as a whole, but it also makes the area around it seem better and makes the sports complex look more harmonious and well-kept.
The new building’s primary entrance is on its east side, where the projected parking lot would be. Some of the parking lot is unchanged, while some has been altered to fit the new layout. Following current rules and guidelines, there is also a place to park bikes. The entrance to the building is higher than the sidewalk, thus there are steps and a gently sloping surface to get there.

Once inside, the user enters a large lobby that has a reception room with a counter, a waiting space, an inside window that lets them see directly into the pool basin, and access to the stands set up for spectators.
The changing room area is divided into three separate sections: one for women, one for men, and one for mixed or family use. The mixed or family section is for friends of both sexes who are with and help minors of different sexes, making it as flexible and appropriate as possible for different types of users.
Each changing room has a place to change with benches and coat racks, a place to store things, a shower space and a bathroom section with toilets/urinals, sinks with mirrors and all the other things you need. There is a barefoot corridor from each changing room to the pool area. This follows hygiene guidelines and discourages people from wearing street shoes in the pool area. This way, the changing rooms serve as a useful transition, keeping dry and moist regions apart.
The pool complex has a pool basin and benches for people to use. You can see the intended spectator seats from the east side. The ceiling height is more than 4 metres in all of its usable space. At one end, a walkway leads directly to the “Tavi y Carmona” Sports Palace’s existing indoor pool, which makes the whole complex more useful. Three of its facades let in natural light and air, which is good for the space.
The design includes systems that improve thermal performance and use less energy. The boiler room that is now used for the existing swimming pool will be shared to make the complex’s technical operations easier to manage and more efficient. We will do this by making it possible to go to the boiler room from the new building and linking the two buildings underneath. This will make it easier to maintain the buildings and control their equipment together.
