The National Police have arrested a man in Málaga who is responsible for numerous hotel thefts. One of these robberies happened in Málaga, when he stole a tourist’s suitcase with electronics and jewellery worth more than €47,000. The Provincial Police Headquarters said yesterday, Monday November 17th, that the suspect worked in numerous Spanish regions. However, cooperation between police stations led to his arrest in the Chamartín area of Madrid.
Investigation Group I of the Central Police Station in Malaga started looking into the case when a tourist said that one of his five bags had been taken while he was checking into a hotel in the city centre. Security cameras at the hotel showed that the criminal got extremely close to the victim and snatched the luggage as he left it for hotel workers to transport to his room. “The suspect was wearing a white shirt that made him look like a hotel employee to the victim and a friend of the tourist to the hotel staff,” the National Police said.
Police cooperation channels showed pictures of similar events in other provinces, which helped fully identify the alleged culprit. The victim and witnesses were “without a doubt” able to identify him. A countrywide police warrant was issued when the suspect could not be found. This worked quickly. This man was found in Madrid’s Chamartín district, next to a hotel where he had ID. Along with the Málaga police warrant, he had five other warrants out for his arrest for similar crimes he had committed in other parts of Spain.
