On Thursday afternoon, November 20th, in Mazarrón, an officer from the Mazarrón Main Station who was off duty saw a lot of smoke coming from a window of a house while going down the street.
The Guardia Civil officer told the Citizen Security Prevention patrol that was on duty at the time. The patrol also got a report from another person who lived nearby the building.
The Guardia Civil officer who was there didn’t think twice about going inside the building where the blazing house was located when he saw that the door was open. Despite his lack of knowledge about the severity of the fire, he felt compelled to investigate and rescue those inside.
When they went up to the first floor, they discovered a woman, the owner of the house, at the entrance with clear indicators that she had breathed in a lot of smoke.
The Guardia Civil officer helped the woman, who was enveloped by smoke, get out of the building. The Guardia Civil patrol came shortly after and found the woman who had been rescued with her nose blackened from breathing in smoke, together with the officer who had aided her and gotten her out.
The Guardia Civil officers said that the fire started in the kitchen of the house and made a lot of smoke. The woman tried to put it out, but she couldn’t and the smoke spread.
Emergency medical personnel came to the site and helped the victim, who didn’t seem to be badly hurt. She was given oxygen through a tube and sent to the hospital as a safety measure to make sure she didn’t have any further injuries.
Firefighters put out the fire, and police and firefighters also showed up to help. The house was damaged by fire, and firefighters had to utilise fans to get the smoke out of the premises.
