Police in Spain’s Alicante town of Benidorm have arrested a 43-year-old Colombian fugitive. The police in his country were looking for him because he had moved 850 million Colombian pesos to his bank account to steal them by using his position as police treasurer.
The National Police seized the fugitive, who already had a criminal record in our country, after learning that the Colombian authorities had issued an International Arrest Warrant for his extradition on November 22nd.
Because of this, the Benidorm Police Station set up a search operation that led to the arrest of the fugitive on November 27th.
Arrest and extradition from other countries
The international arrest order says that the detainee, a former Colombian military commander, stole 850 million Colombian pesos (about 200,000 euros) while he was treasurer of a regional department of the Colombian police.
In 2019, these things happened. It wasn’t until July of this year, 2025, that a judgement was finally given for the crimes. The Colombian military and police legal authorities sentenced the criminals to 11 years and 8 months in prison.
The police inquiry has led to the detainee being turned over to the Central Court of Instruction of the National Court, which is in responsibility of making sure that he is extradited.
