The Guardia Civil and the El Campello Town Hall have said that a pilot who was blinded by light while flying over the town recently warned them. They want to remind people that shining light into the sky with projectors or lasers can be a very serious crime.
The event happened on December 8th, and the plane quickly told the Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport Control Tower about it.
The Airport Operations Department found the plane flying over an open region of El Campello and told the Security Forces.
The Guardia Civil and the Local Police of El Campello started looking for the source of the beam of light that put the plane’s flight in jeopardy.
The Guardia Civil and the El Campello City Council want people to know that projecting light into the sky with projectors or lasers can get you in a lot of trouble, with fines of 30,001 to 600,000 euros.
The Guardia Civil further says that this behaviour could be criminal if it blinds or distracts pilots or drivers of vehicles, which could lead to accidents.
They further say that if you see something like this, you should phone 112 or use the Alertcops App to report it right away. The app lets you email the exact location and photographs or videos in real time to the Security Forces.
