Alicante City Council’s Local Governing Board have made the final decision on the call for applications for birth grants for the year 2025. The Alicante City Council set aside a total of 100,000 euros for these grants, distributing them to 332 families who applied. There were 913 applications received by the beginning of December.
There were 332 grants given out, but 42 were turned down because they didn’t satisfy the standards set out in the call, and 59 were taken back because they didn’t send in the right paperwork on time.
According to municipal sources, “thus ensuring that all applicants who meet the requirements will receive the aid,” the remaining 480 applications and those received up to December 31st will be reviewed. All those who meet the requirements will be paid from the budget of the next call for applications in 2026.
Begoña León, the Councillor for Social Welfare, said that “all families with children born in 2025 will get this help, which is 300 euros for each birth. In the 2026 budget, we doubled this amount to 200,000 euros.”
León said that the goal of this help is “to raise birth rates in the municipality and give families in Alicante financial support through a new programme that has been very well received.”
