Calpe Town Hall has put up an artistic railing called “Love of the Sea… Love” to honour Calpe’s link to the sea and the fishing industry, which has long been a mainstay of the Calpe economy.
Yesterday, Wednesday December 31st, the Mayor of Calpe, Ana Sala, opened this piece. It was created and manufactured of galvanised iron by the sculptor Toni Marí from Xàbia. It is next to the wall at the end of Calle Castelló, where you can see the Fossa beach.
The artistic railing shows a meadow of Posidonia seagrass with other marine animals that are common in Calpe, like mahi-mahi, gilthead bream, white prawns and octopus. There are also poetry by Joaquín Roselló, who is from Calpe and used to be a deep-sea fishing captain.
Along with Marí and Roselló, the head of the Fishermen’s Guild, Paco Catalá, and the former Councillor for Infrastructure, Juan Manuel del Pino, who pushed for this event to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Fishermen’s Guild, were also there.
