Elche plans to complete the project within six months and budget no more than €96,000 annually.
The goal of the project is to replace the current rubber tile flooring with a continuous safety surface that is more durable and better at absorbing impacts. The new surface will be constructed on-site with two layers of bonded rubber, and it will meet European standards for keeping kids safe when they play.
Actions all throughout the city
The contract is split into two lots, so work can be done in both the town centre and the rest of the municipality. Lot 1, which is budgeted at €70,000, includes the playgrounds in the town centre that are bordered by the main ring roads and avenues. Lot 2 is for play spaces outside the town centre and has a budget of €26,000.
The restoration will be done in stages and as needed, with the parks that have the most worn-out pavement and safety issues getting the most attention first.
What will change
The job will involve taking out the old rubber tiles, getting the surface ready, and putting in new continuous pavement that is the right height for each play feature. If necessary, the playground equipment will be taken apart and put back together again, and the edges of the playground will be finished to keep the ground level. The job also comprises cleaning the regions one last time when the work is done. Under the watchful eye of municipal professionals, the paving finishes may have different colours and patterns.
The Elche City Council wants to make children’s play areas more modern, lower the danger of accidents, and give families safer and longer-lasting environments. This will affect parks all around the city and its surrounding areas.
The anticipated work will be a lot. In the city, the project will cover the area from Avenida Jubalcoi, Avenida Unesco, Avenida Bimilenari, Avenida Presidente Lázaro Cárdenas, Calle Senia, Ronda de Vall d’Uxo, Calle Orito, Calle Gayanes Nájera, Calle Cañada, Calle Mahón, Avenida Novelda, to Ronda Vall d’Uxo, Ronda Oeste-Carrús, the Southern Ring Road, the Elche-Santa Pola road, Calle Carlos Antón Antón, Calle María Belmonte, Calle Rogelio Mora, Calle Almagro, Avenida Manuel Martínez Valero, etc. Even though the outer areas weren’t directly named, work is also planned there depending on what they need.
