According to authorities from the Armed Institute, the Guardia Civil has looked into a San Pedro del Pinatar resident as a possible criminal for having multiple goldfinches without a license or permission.
The Guardia Civil started its activity when they thought they could have seen a few finches in a house.
The Seprona Guardia Civil officers went into the property at the owner’s request and confirmed that the birds belonged to a third party who said he didn’t have a hunting licence or permission from the government to own, breed, or transport these species.
These are four finch birds, some of which are goldfinches (Carduelis carduelis) and some of which are the same species.
The Seprona gave the animals to the San Javier Court of Instruction and started a case against the people who were accused of committing a crime related to protecting wildlife. This was done because they were illegally keeping finches, which is against European and regional laws on protecting wild birds.
The Guardia Civil wants everyone to know that it is illegal to catch, keep, or sell protected wild birds without the proper government permission. This type of behaviour is bad for biodiversity.
