Two young men were arrested attempting to steal scooters that were parked in Orihuela Costa’s Zenia Boulevard shopping centre. The two, who are 19-year-old twins, were seen on security cameras using tools to pry the locks off the scooters.
However, the robbery was stopped by the prompt action of the local police officers. They ran after being spotted, starting a foot pursuit through one of the biggest retail centres in the province that resulted in their apprehension.

Safety
Concern for public safety has doubled in the municipality compared to the autumn poll, jumping from 11% to 21.9% of replies, according to data from the Public Opinion Observatory’s most recent barometer, which puts it in top place. Next in line are housing (13.8%) and cleanliness (18%). worry over social services (5.7%) has grown following infrastructure (7.2%), which was a minor worry in the prior survey. Mobility, the environment and pollution, and employment are still some of the most urgent issues.
In reference to the December 21st killing and a prior gunshot in which an Irish resident suffered critical injuries, Councillor for Citizen Security Mónica Pastor recently issued a warning over the rise in major security incidents along the Orihuela beach, which are associated with gangs settling scores. Mónica Pastor recognised that the security personnel are “overwhelmed” and suggested that the Orihuela City Council might donate property for the construction of a coastal police station.
In addition, he criticised the lack of Guardia Civil officers in the region, even though the Government Delegation had promised to increase the Guardia Civil’s presence in Orihuela Costa. The National Police and the Guardia Civil undertake security duties in the vast municipality of Orihuela Costa. While several Guardia Civil barracks serve the coastline and outlying districts, the former exclusively works within the town centre of Orihuela, where it maintains a station. In the instance of Orihuela Costa, the police based in Torre del Pilar de la Horadada encompass dozens of residential projects along the Orihuela coast, spanning over fifteen kilometres. The Torrevieja devision occasionally provides reinforcements to them.
The Government Delegation has been asked by the City Council to establish a practical and functional coastal security system. The establishment of a permanent Guardia Civil post is the most important idea, which was already discussed at the most recent Local Security Board meeting.
