The Fifth Section of the Provincial Court of Valencia has sentenced a man to six and a half years in prison for stealing an elderly woman’s purse and then trying to kill a child who tried to stop him from getting away.
The person was sentenced for robbery with violence, which is a crime that is made worse by the fact that they have done it before, and for attempted homicide, which is a crime that is made worse by the fact that they have done it before. In both cases, the damage was only partially repaired.
The High Court of Justice of the Valencian Community made the punishment public. It is in line with the agreement struck at the start of the trial between the prosecution and the defence. The guilty man must pay 2,500 euros to the young guy he tried to kill as compensation.
He won’t be able to get within 300 metres of him or talk to him in any way for three years.
The events took place on a street in the Les Palmeres beach area of Sueca at 6:00 p.m. on August 19th, 2024. The convicted man approached the 81-year-old woman and stole her bag, which had her phone, wallet, documents, and about 70 euros in cash inside.
The grandson of the 80-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy who was riding a bike in the area at the time chased after the robber as he ran away.
The minor was able to stop him and get close to the attacker. The attacker then pulled out a knife he had hidden in his pants to threaten the minor and try to get away with his bike.
The young boy attempted to intervene, but during the struggle, the attacker stabbed him in the neck “with the intention of ending his life or, at least, accepting the possibility of causing his death,” according to the court’s decision.
The boy had a cut under his left jaw that needed stitches and left a one-centimetre scar.
The man who was found guilty put 650 euros into a court account before the hearing, which is why this is a partial mitigating element. The sentence has been set in stone.
