They stole cars and then crashed them into stores to take money from gaming machines, Iberian goods, and expensive bikes. They were so busy that they once robbed four shops in one night. The National Police and the Guardia Civil worked together to stop a gang based in Seville that is thought to have committed 25 robberies in three months throughout southern Spanish provinces like Seville, Cádiz, Córdoba, Huelva, and Badajoz. Seven people have been arrested by investigators. All of them have been convicted of property offences before, and five of them are still in jail. They are being looked into for crimes like being a member of a criminal organisation, breaking and entering, robbery with violence and threats, having weapons, and drug trafficking.
Last August, authorities started looking into a stolen car in the village of Lebrija, Seville. They used that cars to steal from four shops. The gang mostly went after clubs and restaurants since they were easy places to steal gaming machines, especially slot machines, because they were worth a lot of money.
In early November, the arrests in this investigation, which was called Tragaleones-Marinara, were made. In the last part of the inquiry, the gang’s habits of targeting changed. They mostly went after gourmet food establishments, looking for expensive Iberian goods like hams and pork loin, as well as high-end bike shops. They also broke into stores that sold sports equipment. Investigators don’t think this move is because these things would sell for more on the black market. Instead, they think it’s because the gang is willing to go after anyone. Because of their hyperactivity, detectives have called them “one of the most active smash-and-grab gangs in southern Spain.”
During the operation, officers from the Guardia Civil and National Police searched several homes in Seville and in the metropolitan areas of Dos Hermanas and Alcalá de Guadaíra. They found many Iberian goods, expensive bicycles, and arcade machines. They also recovered a lot of tools and clothes that were utilised in the robberies, as well as alarm and vehicle ignition jammers, long weapons, and an indoor marijuana grow operation with more than 290 plants.
The people who were arrested were taken to the Civil and Instruction Section of the Court of First Instance number 2 of Lebrija, where they were ordered to stay in jail until their trial.
